Grabie Alcohol Marker Review and comparision to Ohuhu Alcohol Markers

Disclaimer: I was sent these products for free in exchange for featuring them in my content. My thoughts and opinions remain my own.

Hello everyone! I was kindly sent some products from Grabie to try out so I decided to write a little review to share my thoughts. Keep reading to hear my thoughts about the alcohol markers and fine tip acrylic markers from Grabie!

I have created a couple cards using the products Grabie sent me and will include photos throughout this blog post. Hopefully they stop this post from being too boring!

Grabie Alcohol Markers

Let's start with the alcohol markers from Grabie. I was sent the 48 set of alcohol markers that Grabie offers which includes a rainbow of colours. The Grabie marker is double sided with both a brush nib and chisel nib. You can see me swatch out all the colours in this reel. Click to watch the swatching

Overall I thought these markers were fine, but I much prefer my Ohuhu markers and would recommend the Ohuhu much more highly for several reasons.

 1) Colour options: Grabie only offers 2 sets of alcohol markes on their website, the 48 set that I have tried and a 36 skin tone set. I don't see any obvious duplicates between the sets so there appears to be a total of 84 markers in their collection. In contrast, Ohuhu offers over 320 colours in their Honolulu series markers. While you very likely do not need 320 markers, you will likely want to add to your collection and have more than 84 markers total if you want a marker collections without any large gaps.

2) Brush and fine nib option. This is a big one for me, the Grabie marker have a brush tip on one end and a chisel nib on the other. Ohuhu's Honolulu markers are like this but they also offer the Honolulu B series which features a brush nib and a fine bullet nib. This is my preference because I love using both these nibs and I never really use the chisel nib.

3) No colourless blender. There was no colourless blender in my set of Grabie markers and Grabie does not appear to offer a colourless blenders. The colourless blender is a useful marker that can be used to blend out the edges of light colours into white or even to create cool effects like bokeh. In contrast Ohuhu offers a colourless blender and includes it in most sets you buy.

3) Refills and individual markers: There are no refills available of the Grabie markers and they do not sell markers individually. Ohuhu offers refills for many of their colours on their website and also sells all the markers individually on their website.*

* However it should be noted that this has only been good in theory for me because currently they do not sell refills or individual markers to Canada 😞 As of now, it appears as though they only sell refills to USA and European customers on their website. But it is a good sign that they offer refills at all and I hope that in the future I will be able to refill my most used colours or at least replace just individual markers.

I did have fun colouring with these markers and I will continue to use these for my crafting to supplement my Ohuhus. However I personally would not purchase these markers or recommend them due to the above. I think it might only be worth trying these markers if you can get them for a lot cheaper than Ohuhu markers. Both the companies sell their products on Amazon as well as their websites. On the websites the prices are very similar but sometimes Amazon has random deals and with shipping they might be a more affordable option depending on where you live. If they are cheaper than the Ohuhu ones I think they might be a good option for someone just wanting to try out alcohol markers and see if it is a medium you enjoy. Otherwise, Ohuhu is my top recommendation for affordable markers.

Grabie Extra Fine Tip Acrylic Paint Markers

To end on a more positive note, I was also sent their 28 set of Extra Fine Tip Acrylic Paint Markers and I really enjoyed using the white one to add highlights! I am very new to acrylic markers so honestly I have no idea how to use the variety of colours for true colouring but I loved the white marker. I feel it was a lot smoother and easier to use in comparison to the gel pen I usually use for adding white highlights.

The gold and silver in the set are also lovely and I can see myself using them a lot for adding metallic accents to my projects. The other colours are beautiful and I'm excited to try out some fun techniques with them. I have seen some really fun effects created by layering acrylic markers on top of alcohol markers so that is what I'm excited to try next.

These are the first acrylic markers I have really used so I can't compare them to others but they seem to be fairly affordable options and I would certainly recommend the white marker for adding white highlights, especially if you are someone who struggles with white gel pens but still loves the look of white highlights.  It doesn't look like they sell just the white acrylic marker but they do sell smaller sets of just white and black which might be a good option if you don't want all the colours that are included in the larger sets.
