My First A7 cards featuring my go to card layout

Ever since I started making cards a few years back, I've pretty much only made A2 size cards. It is what I'm most comfortable with and I kinda like that the smaller size keeps me from getting overwhelmed with design decisions!

But recently I've been wanting to try out making larger cards so I decided to give it a go. To prevent myself from getting overwhelmed, I stuck to one of my favourite layouts for card design. I use this layout time and time again and it works great on both A2 and A7 card designs.

Basically, I like to have a rectangle centred in the middle of my cardfront panel where I add some interest with colour. On this cute snail card, I did a loose watercolour wash to form this rectangle before die cutting the panel out with an A7 stitched die. Next, I added my focal elements (the snail and mushroom) to the lower left corner of the watercolour rectangle making sure they overlapped with the white framing margin slightly. I placed the sentiment in the lower right corner because I thought it worked best there with this design but I generally place the sentiment in the upper right corner to balance out the design like can be seen in my next card.

Can you see how this mouse card follows pretty much the same layout as the snail one?

I used different mediums to create it but the layout follows the same pattern. On this card, I stamped the mouse and mushroom in the lower left corner and then masked them off with masking paper. Then I used some masking tape to mask off a rectangle which I ink blended using a leafy stencil. After removing the masks I coloured the mouse and mushroom with my Ohuhu alcohol markers and cut the panel out using the same A7 stitched die I used on the first card.

For this design, I thought the sentiment looked best up in the upper right corner. I stamped the sentiment in a dark brown ink and then stamped over it again with Versamark ink so I could add some clear glitter embossing powder. It doesn't show up that well in photos, but the sparkle is lovely in person!

I hope you liked seeing my projects and perhaps found my go to layout inspiring! If you have any go to layouts or designs for your cards I'd love to hear about them down in the comments!
